Monday morning is especially tough after an awesome, jam-packed weekend. I woke up today wanting to do nothing but sip coffee and bask in the afterglow. (And maybe catch up on a little sleep.)
We started Friday night with carnitas and beers at Radicle Effect Brewerks (the Radicle Effect Drive by Rye, infused with basil and rosemary, was delicious). Then we cruised down the hill to Bent River Rock Island for Robert Jon & The Wreck. We first saw them last August when they closed out River Roots Live (pics below). They are bad.ass. Check them out. That's really all I have to say about it.
Saturday morning I got my onions in the ground. In the future I will start them MUCH, MUCH earlier so that they are at least pencil-sized stalks by planting time. These onions seedlings were kind of sad and tiny, but they seem to have survived the weekend thunderstorms, so that gives me hope!
Next, I was off to DeKalb for dinner with a friend, and onward to Chicago for Resonate X. This is a Burning-Man-related event that I have performed at the last few years. There is a wide variety of talents and skill levels represented. Flag twirlers, hoopers, burlesque, pole dance, fire performers, marching bands, DJ's, and more. Some are professionals while others are just hobbyist. There are also tons of art installations and interactive exhibits to wander. Everyone is equally showered with love and appreciation by the audience.
This was my first time (possibly ever?) performing a fully choreographed piece alone on stage. Yes, I was definitely nervous, but once I stepped on stage, I felt right at home.
The next morning I went to brunch with friends (obviously) at The Old Oak Tap. It was a gorgeous day to sit on the covered patio and have Bloody Marys and a Breakfast Flatbread. I probably could have sat there all day.
In the afternoon I was supposed to attend a Circus Hooping workshop, but it got cancelled. On the bright side, I made it home in time for some Sunday Funday with Matt (watching Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Veep!)
I hope you all enjoyed your weekends as well!!
Hello, there! My name is Nikki Jones and this is a place for me to write about my travels, my urban homesteading adventures, and whatever else my little heart desires at a given moment. Like many personal-blog bloggers, there are times I write daily and long streteches I'm not inspired to write at all. And that's ok! At any rate, I'm glad you're here.
