Brunch is ubiquitous in Chicago, and we are more than happy to partake. While we were there this past weekend, we went two amazing places. The first was Ann Sather, a Swedish diner we have been to before. Matt and I are both Swedish and both love a good cinnamon roll, sooooo it's perfect. The first time I went I had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and this time I got the Southern Delight, a poached egg over sausage biscuits and gravy. Probably some of the best versions I have ever had of either dish. Matt gets a more classic breakfast of eggs, bacon, and biscuits with honey (which they bring out before the meal).
The second place we went, The Winchester, was brand new to us. It's a short walk from our friends' place in Ukrainian Village, and they actually donated to the Kickstarter campaign for the restaurant back in 2013. The owners have a great story (watch the video at that link), so I've been anxious to try it.
I loved the decor as soon as we stepped in. It was bright and minimal and cozy, with a lot of great natural materials. And we only had to wait a few minutes for a table.
I basically wanted to try everything on the menu, but went with the dish that came HIGHLY recommended by Rachel, the Avocado Toast. I honestly don't think she would have let me order anything else, and I don't blame her. It was whole grain toast with an avocado spread, topped with thin slices of grapefruit, chili, and pink peppercorns. It was to die for and I basically wish I could eat that for breakfast every day of my life.
She got the warm grain salad, with shishito pepper, kale, tomatillo and a sunny egg.
Also, they had kombucha ON TAP. It was lemon-ginger and absolutely delicious.
There are a few things I feel obligated to warn you about: 1. The Bloody Mary was NOT good. 2. Bad 80's music. 3. Apathetic, hipster staff. But, everything else was great, so I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the neighborhood.
Now I need your suggestions. These are the restaurants I have been to for brunch/breakfast in Chicago:

Hello, there! My name is Nikki Jones and this is a place for me to write about my travels, my urban homesteading adventures, and whatever else my little heart desires at a given moment. Like many personal-blog bloggers, there are times I write daily and long streteches I'm not inspired to write at all. And that's ok! At any rate, I'm glad you're here.
