If you had told me a few months ago that I would be laying on the beach in Florida for Christmas, I wouldn't have believed you. My grandparents have been coming here for 6 years now. And living here nearly full-time for 3. These are the grandparents who raised me during high school. The grandma that took me on my college visit and moved me into the dorms. The grandpa who walked me down the aisle. And still, I had not been. Limited funds. Limited time. And, if I'm being honest, limited excitement about the destination.
But, this year, my aunt decided that the best Christmas present she could give her parents was to bring me down, too! I have joined my aunts and my cousins for a week of holiday festivities sunny-Florida-style.
It's been a different kind of trip for me. One without concerts, breweries, and wilderness adventures. One where I was the passenger more often than the driver. One where my company and I have different habits and interests. In a way, it's been a growing experience, being out of my comfort zone.
It's also been full of wonderful things! Such as:
I do not take for granted the fact that I still have my grandparents around to do these things with. And that my family cares enough to make sure I got down here one way or another.
I hope wherever you are, it's been a very special Christmas as well.
Hello, there! My name is Nikki Jones and this is a place for me to write about my travels, my urban homesteading adventures, and whatever else my little heart desires at a given moment. Like many personal-blog bloggers, there are times I write daily and long streteches I'm not inspired to write at all. And that's ok! At any rate, I'm glad you're here.
